Former Slave Aunt Druella Jones an Alabama Warrioress Archetype
Enslaved in Alabama, Jones tried to burn the house of her former slave master down while he was asleep in it. All anyone ever said about her was that she totally despised the white man. He knew she was trying to get him.
She was a revolutionary who said, « Never be loyal to the slave master. » During the Civil War she tried to burn down every overseers house.
This is a photograph of Jones at the age of 94. She and two others were the only old slaves we found who were not loyal to their slave owners. The photo was taken in 1915.
