Gregory Hutchison
Gregory Fernard Hutchison, known as Big Hutch and Cold 187 um, is an American rapper and producer, born on August 4, 1967. He is the leader of the rap group Above the Law. The son of songwriter Richard Hutchison and nephew of the late R&B singer Willie Hutch, Gregory Hutchison was immersed in a rich and diverse musical environment from a young age.
Above the Law signed to Ruthless Records in late 1989, marking the beginning of a fruitful career. Their debut album, Livin’ Like Hustlers, was released in 1990. This album, overseen and co-produced by Dr. Dre, then a member of N.W.A, helped establish the group’s reputation. The presence of N.W.A members on the album further solidified its notoriety.
Following Dr. Dre’s departure and the founding of Death Row Records, Cold 187 um played a crucial role in maintaining Ruthless Records’ success. His contribution to the Livin’ Like Hustlers album and his skills as a producer were widely acclaimed.
As a producer, Gregory Hutchison also worked with Eazy-E, contributing to the creation of several iconic hits of the genre.
